Observe the bottom bar of the E of WE on the following class VI DDOs. Notice that they curve up at the point like a fanged tooth. Now look at the E of WE on the coin above and see how it is straight. Link 1. Link 2. Link 3. Link 4.
I know this seems strange, but this is one of my favorite places to look on extra thick coins.

Wendell is right on with one of the diagnostics for a true Class 6 Doubled die. Of course, there are exceptions. On the post wheaties, I tend to look at the bottom of the letters US of TRUST for extra thickness as well.Bob Piazza

I know this E of WE trick doesn't work 100% of the time, especially on the more modern ones, but it helps. All of the 1989 Class VI and Class II+VI DDOs I've seen don't show the effect on the E of WE. Class VI doubled dies tend to be hard to find and sometimes hard to identify. This is especailly true on years where the master die received class VI hub doubling. Then you have to find extra thickness on an already extra thick coin!
Has anyone listed a 1989 class II+VI DDO that shows strong separation on the bottom of the vest along with the typical doubling on the Date, LIBERTY, and IN GOD WE TRUST?
