Interesting Coin | 1999S Close AM Graded by PCGS

Hey all! I have been watching ebay this evening and saw this coin listed for $225 to bid or $350 buy it now. It is graded by PCGS and I went to PCGS and it confirms the info on the holder.
Anyway I can't afford it but I thought someone here may find it to be a good deal. Cherrypickers guide list it in PR-67 at $850.00, PCGS has a list price of $225 which is the starting bid?? Big differance there??
PCGS does show it to have 79 known examples.
Thats pretty rare.

Shannon,

The most recent 1999 CAM that sold on Heritage was a PCGS PR69 on July 9th and it sold for $230. Before that, the most recent to sell was a PCGS PR67 on Jan 23rd and it sold for $109.25. I find that the values PCGS lists are always way out of the ballpark from what the market will support. The proof is always in the recent auctions. If I were buying this coin I'd try to find it for under $110.

you probably have a 99-PHILADELPHIA.....they are all normally Close AM.
the 99-P is also found with a Wide AM,which is the one you want to find.

the original poster is talking about a 1999-San Francisco PROOF.

i just took a quick look in the PCGS registry at 99-S CAM's

POP PR69DCAM......119 coins....and 1 graded in MS70

Multiply that times the examples graded in PF66, 68 and 69, then times the other grading services, then multiply that times the fact that most are probably still in their original proof sets.... you'll see why it's a $100 coin.

Very important is the last point: the number still in Mint sets. I have not looked at numbers, but that being the first year of the state quarters (first major change in a long time -1976), I would guess many, including non-collectors, purchased a Mint set.

Population reports are not an end all, but only a starting point.
