That's interesting. Brian came to mind yesterday and I was thinking of contacting him about something. Will have to watch the auction and see how it fairs. The BIN seems reasonable to me.Rock

In a way, it's a shame. On the other hand, if more pop up, it looks like I may actually get to own one some day.All opinions expressed are not necessarily shared by willbrooks or his affiliates. Taking them may result in serious side effects. Results may vary. Offer not valid in New Jersey.Comment

Call me paranoid, but I have to wonder why this coin is slabbed by ANACS as opposed to PCGS where its true value what be maximized. Could it be that it has problems and can't get INTO said holder?
I have no issue with ANACS to slab those varieties that PCGS won't attribute, but this one is a money maker and needs to be in the "right" slab. Just my opinion of course, but I wouldn't take the gamble. Regardless of how "reasonable" the BIN sounds at $3250.Comment

I know that Brian does direct submissions to ANACS, but I don't think he springs for the extra costs of other TPGs. He's an old-school die hard that knows the coin and doesn't need plastic to prove it. With that said, I cannot vouch for the coin.Chris & Charity Welch- LIVEANDIEVARIETIES

how many people have one of these? How many have a 1972 ddo die 4?How many have a 1983 ddr 1?
How many 1917 ddo? I don't have the 1917 ddo or the 1972 ddo die 4....
Yea..be it 5 reported or 50 reported..I call them rare...popping up more and more...but common..nope
what would you call them?Last edited by onecent1909; 07-21-2013, 02:08 PM.Member: Florida State representative for the ANA, Florida state representative for CONECA, F.U.N. and the Ocala Coin ClubComment

I would say IMO that 1992D Close-AMs are much rarer than 1972 die 4 or the 1983 DDR.Comment

Rare is a comparative term. The known population of this coin at all 3 TPGs has tripled since I handled my first one less than 30 months ago. Just bought and sold a '66 DDR. Still only 3 confirmed and one other reported example. Rare.Chris & Charity Welch- LIVEANDIEVARIETIES

If you go to the CONECA home page and scroll down about halfway there are some photos of it.
The guy that found the 3rd example of this rare DDR was also the one to report the first 1983D cent struck on copper...I think I'll need to pay his bank a local visit.
