Can't believe someone bid on this coin, much less $10. I'm also incredulous that Weinberg would offer it.

I'm on the other side of the coin, George. People like what they like and as long as it's described correctly, let them bid what they may.

I would not argue with that point either Roger. We have seen mauled "parking lot" and "dryer" coins being offered and bought on the bay. As the saying goes, a fool and his money are soon parted. I seriously doubt, however, that anyone actually collects bubbled coins. The offer for sale may just be a survey of how gullible people can be.I am more troubled by the identity of the offeror. It is one thing when some unknown offers to sell a toast that appears to image Jesus, Mary and Joseph as some kind of a miracle but it would be quite different if the Pope or one of his Cardinals was offering it. Why, because it lends credibility to the hoax and the beguiled may actually believe that it is a miracle. We should not promote trash as numismatic treasure or even as collectible. Hope I have not used a hornet's nest as a piñata by this response. It is not my intent.

Not at all George, I enjoy civilized discussions on these topics.....it's just like MD, some people like and collect, others consider them trash....I just like to be the kind of person that doesn't tell others what to like, collect, or enjoy, that's all . Deception is an entirely different topic....but I don't see that on this auction...he gives an honest description and doesn't hold to the theory that the purchaser adhere to a particular set of standards. I can remember one time a member offered MD coins for sale on here and was told to remove them....that bothered me.

Now you've done it Roger, LOL. I happen to like some of the more severe machine doubled coins and set them aside. Kidding aside, though, I don't condone stifling of any legitimate conduct or sale and fully support anyone's right to sell whatever legal stuff they have. However, just like with free speech, we must tolerate it regardless of its content as long as not illegal, whether we like it or not. That does not mean that all speech is acceptable and we choose to deride that which is not. So here, I think there is a bar under which I, personally, will not crawl.

I think it is a very unusual and collectible cent. Certainly not your usual blister. I would sell it too.
