I'm starting to think it's rarer than rpm3. Since I've started looking, I've found more 3s. However, 3 is easier to spot with crappy pictures, so I'm not certain it's rarer.
Edit: Bob, would you agree this is an earlier die state too?Last edited by willbrooks; 12-04-2024, 05:52 PM.All opinions expressed are not necessarily shared by willbrooks or his affiliates. Taking them may result in serious side effects. Results may vary. Offer not valid in New Jersey. -
Will FWIW - here is my AU 55 next to it for comparison. These two are about the same grade but the eBay specimen is I believe an EDS. It's usually the upper part of the serif that remains and the remnants underneath the Mint Mark are the first to go. So unless you got great pics, it's hard to spot. The markers for me have been at a distance: Look for the weak LIB on the Obverse and the Smashed O in ONE and Smashed EPU on the reverse. Others have told me they have seen specimens without the smashed O on the reverse which would mean an earlier die state - But I have yet to see one. Later die states will also have a very weak IGWT.

Thanks for that insight, Bob. I bought the eBay coin after some negotiation. I'm a little concerned about the scratch on the shoulder, but we'll have to see what PCGS says. I'll put in the my next shipment probably in a couple of months. All opinions expressed are not necessarily shared by willbrooks or his affiliates. Taking them may result in serious side effects.
