    1950 D Strikethrough??

I bought a few rolls of Lincoln Wheat's and decided to clean them up because I saw nothing that was special about them and A Guide Book of United States Coins 2014 didn't list them as being all that valuable. Anyway, when I looked at some of them again I found this one.

Is this a strikethrough? It looks like the leg of the 'N' on the reverse. The reason I'm asking is that the error seems to be recessed into the coin.

I'm new to this but I think it is very interesting.

I didn't want be the first post and kill your excitement, but cleaning a coin will never improve it and will always damage it. Once cleaned, a coin may never return to it's natural state and always be a damaged coin.

On the upside, a clash like that doesn't fetch much of a premium, so it was a very inexpensive lesson.

LCR has dozens of threads on coin cleaning, conservation and preservation. Feel free to use the search function to find past threads on the subject.

You've got a good eye, next thing you find could be a winner!

            Welcome to the forum!
As noted this is a clash. A common one, so not to worry about the cleaning. We have a site full of large clashes here: http://www.maddieclashes.com/

              Welcome to the LCR.

That's a neat clash, but as you will learn from reading around the forum, cleaning coins in not advised. As Chris said, check out the cleaning/conservation subforum for more info on properly conserving your coins while not diminishing their value.

Thanks to everyone. I'm glad I didn't clean too many of them. I'll stick to the distilled water/acetone method. After looking through some of the other coins I found another die clash -- the outline of the back of Lincoln's head/back on the reverse. Are die clashes really that common? That's two I have found in twenty coins.

                Again, thank you all.

Thanks for the reply. I first read your post on my phone and you mentioned that you had made a DVD. How do I go about getting a copy of it? Just from the image you posted I found two coins with a die clash that I would have otherwise overlooked.
