Hello I'm Jen, very much new to collecting and I'm trying to learn as much as I can. I was wondering if this penny was altered post production.. can anyone help.. thanks in advance.
Welcome to the LCF. I don't see anything unusual about it. It appears to have some light toning which is not unusual for copper cents. What does the reverse look like? If the reverse is not toned, then it might have come from the end of an old roll.

Welcome come to LCF Jen.
Your coin looks like a 1966 Cent that would Grade out as Extra Find "EF". What I see is a coin that still has about half of the mint luster, the color I think your talking about..
Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.
thanks for the quick responses. The reverse isn't as toned as the obverse but there's still a nice color to it. I'm sorting through coins i got last year and i am trying to figure out and learn what coins I want to keep. So I have coins scattered everywhere and now Im just a little overwhelmed. But thank you i will try to look things up online before I ask again.
Welcome to the LCF Jen... This is a great place to learn... There are lots of highly knowledgeable folks here ready to help... Use the Glossary link at the top of the page to get you started... Tons of info there plus you will find links to other web sites... For a first pic you did a great job... Looks to be natural toning as mentioned earlier... Looking forward to your posts!!!
Jim (A.K.A. Elmer Fudd) Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!

I've been sorting out coins from my 40+ year old piggy bank, and this is a sample of the 1966 Lincolns I have found.
I have noticed that the 1966 coins mostly looked like they have been buffed, or something.
Must have been a buffy year for making sense.
Hope this helps you in defining the field of 1966.
