    Error Other | What would you call this?

    Unsure what this would be called. The rest of the coin is normal and the reverse side of this area is a full strike.

    Im puzzled with this one,on one hand it looks like some kind of clash and on the other possible doubling..I'd wait a few hour until one of the pros sees this one,they might even need to see it in hand..Well anyways thanks for sharing it..

        It's peripheral die damage/die loss. It's most likely a die attrition error, which is caused by a misaligned hammer (obverse die) coming in contact with the beveled entrance of the collar. The repeated contacts wear away the edge of the field portion of the die. The missing metal assumes the form of a crescent, which is apparently what you have. 1983 produced a bumper crop of die attrition errors among cents. Yours fits right in.
