Error Planchet | Mint Error or PMD?

I am a toll collector here in Texas and I see all kinds of coins come through. I did receive this very thin planchet cent yesterday. I am able to barely make out the wheat heads on the reverse. The obverse is recognizable but the date is unreadable. Not sure if it is a weak strike, grease filled die strike or just wear.

Is this something to hold onto - for posterity sake maybe?

    Thank you for your input.

I have not seen a worn, older example of a genuine (grease) filled die or a weakly struck coin. It sure looks worn; do you by chance have the weight of the coin? If it happened that it was an error coin, in the current condition it may prove impossible to prove.

    Interesting - thanks for sharing...

At least part of the rim looks strong so I would go for grease and worn.

Thank you for the insight. Don't have a scale as yet but it is approximately 3/4 thickness of a normal cent.

If it is thinner than normal I would think even more so it is just worn. I have no idea how one could prove a rolled thin planchet or a split planchet with this much wear, leading me to think it is just wear.

I see lots of wear as if someone carried it as a Lucky Piece. Interesting and as stated above the weight would be a nice clue. I have to go with wear for now. Maybe Mike Diamond will see the Thread and give his input. Nice conversation piece.
