Error Plating | 1995D missing copper

Found this 1995D that has a plating issue. Most of the copper is gone plus it looks like some die cracks on the rev and obv.
I think this is a super find for me. Not sure if I am ging to sell it, I might but I don't have any idea what the value is.
    Any thoughts on price?

I'm not an expert on partial plated Lincolns, but to me this looks like it was soaked, rubbed which partially stripped the copper as opposed to being partially plated.

The process of plating is an additive process, compared with chemical or reverse plating which is reductive. They should look different on every level.

    Here is an example:

I agree with Jason... With all of the marks on the surface I believe it to be a post strike manipulation... Probably not to decieve but just to see what it looked like under the plating... Still an interesting coin... Nice pics Jason... Thanks!!!

Jason if it was soaked and rub off (that is if it was) I would think there would be spots of copper in tight areas like in letters and such. Just a thought.
The marks are like that of a woody. This is a circ coin.
But I can see what you are saying and it seems your coin shows die scratches which my coin does not. Thanks Jason for the info and nice pictures.

          Hi Pennies4pennies,

Just my thought, and I don't know much about these types of errors, but by looking at the pictures, particularly, picture 4, 5, and 7, you can see how somebody scratched away on the surface; as though they were trying to remove something, yet directly on the copper plating there are no scratch marks.

IMO I would say your coin was damaged by soaking in a chemical to remove the copper.

Note: The two copper spots left on your coin are opposite of each other and almost the same size. (possibly held by clothes pin while immersing the coin in a caustic solution to remove the copper plating)

Here is a 1987-D I found in circulation and it is encapsulated by NGC as MS-63.

Hey Frank, I have seen about 10-15 altered surface Lincolns with no or partial plating. One had the exact same scratch marks your has. Somewhere in the depths of a hard-drive there are pictures...
