Error Other | 1924-D Reverse Die Dent Mint Error

I have been looking, but I haven't seen this error described anywhere.

There appears to be a die crack on the reverse side of this 1924-D beginning at the N in CENT, running through the N in ONE and extending topside to the second U in PLURIBUS.

There also appears to be a slight depression extending left from the crack and then ramping up at a line between middle of the O in ONE, extending topside between the first U and R in PLURIBUS. If you look at the photo closely you can see a faint shadow on the left side of the depression where it ramps upward.

The Obverse appears to be normal.

Is this in fact a Die Crack error?

Has anyone seen this error on a 1924-D before?

It is a Die Dent. Nice find and a keeper.

This one is from my collection and was found in circulation several years ago.

This error looks identical to the 1924-D that I have. Your photo does a better job of showing the ramp on the left side of the coin.

My question is how does this happen?

Was this an engraving error?

Or did they re-work a damaged die?

A die dent is damage. Could be that a tool or something else fell or hit the die. They do not engrave an error, and if they noticed the damage, any attempt to remove it would require abrading the damaged area.

Somewhat of a small area is finned.
