1946 was a year plagued by very late die state coins that often showed extreme wear in the last two digits of the date. You coin, however, shows very little die wear in the first two digits, which leads me to believe it was an obstructed die strike (probably grease) rather than the typical "vanishing 46" die wear.

Thanks, the other 1946 cents I have do show the wear you're referring to. Good to know the difference.
I think its a 1909-S and a glob of grease fell on the 09-S part.

The technical terminology for that error is called "philadelphia"
