Error Plating | 1984 Lincoln, missing copper plating ?

Need help to identify and decide whether to send the coin out.

Coin is non magnetic, weighs 2.5 grams and is completely shiny silver in color on both sides.

I think it should weigh approx. 2.4375 grams if it is only the zinc core. if its 2.5 then it is plated

I am probably wrong but it looks to shiny to be just zinc. I think it may be plated. But that is just a guess.

I doubt mint specs are close enough to tell by hundredths of grams.

But I too am not sure, and personally I would send to an attributer instead of trying to get guesses using pictures.

Man Roger, you finally got off that new toy of yours. You done pissing off the yellow jackets? As for accuracy hundredths, maybe, but probably not to tenthousandths.

I also gave it the hot plate test (that someone suggested) and it cooked pretty good and did not discolor one bit. When it cooled down it was as shiny as ever !

Another thing for you engineers to think about...if it's plated, wouldn't it be over weight ?

Very very interesting... Time to send this one in for an in hand inspection... You may want to p.m. Mike Diamond to see if he knows anything about an 84 like yours... He may even want you to send it to him!!!

Well we don't know what the planchet weights. One would think it would be over weight, but if the planchet is underweight we may never know. The best thing would be to send it off to Mike for an in-hand examination. We can guess and speculate all night long and still not know what is going on with it. Sometimes it is just fun to hear what people think and debate a bit. Heck can't get anyone to talk about yellow jackets.

I weight a lot of coins and the find that a brand new shiny zincoln may weight as light as 2.45 and as heavy as 2.55 and every once in a while 2.60+, rarely do I find one that weights spot on 2.5. Heck I weighed an old copper last night and it came in a 3.03 but that was due to wear I believe.

The coin shows every indication of having been plated outside the Mint. It's just too bright and shiny.
