    Error Plating | 2000D silver streaks/patches

Is this an issue with the alloy? the coins toned but has a silver look to it in places... THe pics show it pretty well especially on the obverse...

    Thanks

Maybe not an alloy issue as much as a plating issue I think.

To me it looks more like an environmental type of staining. When these things are plated they go into a homogenous solution and plating would be the same all over the coin. Now if the coin has been plated post mint you may see silver toning. This doesn't look like it is post mint plated.

I agree it doesn't seem to be post mint plating... As far as a stain or something i dont know..

In hand the best way to describe what I think I see is that the copper is just missing or really light in the areas that appear silver... It doesn't look like there is extra material on the coin and it doesn't seem as though its been scratched or rubbed off..

I put it in a flip, maybe I'll be able to get some better pictures that will help determine exactly what i'm seeing..

        Thanks for the input!

It cannot be an alloy issue, it's plated with copper. My first thought is either chemical or heat altered. The plating has a thickness, if it is missing, and partially plated, you should be able to see it under a scope at the division points.

Plated Lincoln cents often end up how knows where and have weird color issues.
