This 1940 Way Off RPM Possible

Be sure to look at the photos in order.. Before you comment.. It appears to me it's RPM or what was gonna be an RPM or maybe RPM isn't even the correct terminology.

The way you have it pictured i'd have to agree. Need more angles.

He may know of this one. Before sending it you may want to see if he will take a look at the photo. I think I may even have a few like that around here somewhere. I think I was involved in a discussion about this but it has been quite a while back. Can't remember what the determination of that discussion was.

Here are two that I have labeled as (Die Chip on the loop of the 9)
Always good to get some more opinions though.

Depth of the punch is the issue here. Why would the top be punched so deep, and the rest be so weak?

Because somebody screwed up punching the MM on the die.. then rubbed it down thinking they got it all..

That theory makes sense too. You would need a BU early die state example to be sure.

                        Hi,

I know I'm new here:-) I also know that this thread has been here awhile. :-) I am curious as to the outcome on this as it does not look like an RPM to me. It looks like an unusually shaped hit. I've seen scratches that are caused by reeded edges on coins that end up looking like this.

So...do you know how it turned out:-) ?

                        Thanks,
                        Bill

Its probably just me, but that second one looks like an insect egg to me.

Check it out with a toothpick.
