As you know I am new, I've had thousands of pennies in my hands, have separated several that have made me curious, I show this to consult if one was abused or is error.
Vader, I think that you are seeing is damage. I think they are random contact marks from another coin or from being in circulation. I don't think it is an error coin.
Keep up the hunt!
yes i agree that it is damage from another coin or that someone was messing around and trying to create something with it or just plain old circulation of the coin.
by the way i believe this guy knows the difference between a penny and a cent, i think that was kind of rude in a way. we are all here for the same thing to learn and show what we found and as a team this site of experts of coins will bring others to the site and might put some more popularity of the us Lincoln cent and for other generations of collectors that want to learn about the amazing Lincoln cent.Collecting these great Lincoln cents over the years has been a great hobby and a great way to learn about the us history on coin making.
I don't know what brought this on, but sorry George, but I disagree with your rationale. What is so rude about correcting someone who is using improper terminology? You made a point about this being a place to learn. As an educational site, it is our responsibility to make sure what we are teaching about, or showing is proper. The reason why people are still calling these things pennies is because either they weren't corrected before, or they just don't care. Gilbert has been making it a point to politely correct people who are using the wrong terminology. If you don't like that, then don't call him rude. He is correct, and you are not. Simple as that.
