Hello-Thanks for allowing me to join your group. Some old piggy banks came into my possession lately and one of them contained several hundred pennies with the vast majority being wheat cents. The photos show several odd ones, but my main interest is in the 1962D with the unusual, (silver-like?), finish. I included the Roosevelt dime and the 1964D cent to give some perspective. I'd appreciate feedback on the correct terminoligy for the others, (the 1953D is a "lamination"?). Thanks

Hi Tim, Welcome to LCR..!
Hard to say on the 62 from photos. But there is a lot of hi school science projects that will plate copper cents. I see a lot of them will searching circulated coins.
The other coins pictured are no doubt. post strike damage done by someone that had no regard for the coin.
Again welcome to LCR the 24/7 coin show

The 62 cent I believe is a mercury plating cent. I can see the copper showing on the rim so its definitely plated. The 56D is a lamination error. The other cents looks like target practice with a BB Gun. Not sure what youre showing on the 64D.Life is not about greatness but on the impact of good onto others. It is a matter of how much one shines. Explains why I like shiny coins.Comment

Everything is post strike damage except the 56-d. That one has a lamination peel, it either came off by itself or someone saw it was there and pulled it off. It's normal that you can still see the design even where it peeled off.Comment
