Does this qualify for stuck on a thin planchette? I was able to catch it because of a higher pitch noise it made when it contacts other coins. How often do these get noticed?!
The strike seem normal, and I see no evidence of any post strike damage. Chances are your coin was indeed struck on a tapered or thin planchet. People normally notice them the same way you did, and that is by the sound it makes when dropped.
