Error Die Crack | Die chip extends letters?

I thought I would share this one because it looked interesting to me. I believe die chips have extended the D and W to the rim, and closing the open portion of the G. They seem to have very strait lines, maybe it is something else?!

I'm less interested in the W and more interested in the D. That said, I don't know what's going on there. I'll be watching.

PS: My only guess would be gouge, but I would bet against my self under that scenario. Perhaps the two chips are coincidental. (???)

      They are mini cuds.

I can agree with the overflow-looking material near the rim being cuds, BJ... but do you think the "extension of the D" is either related to (or part of) the CUD above the D? This look more like an impression in the die. (Perhaps that "impression" is related to and/or the result of the CUD?)

        Thanks.

I think the extension of the D is caused by the tiny cud above it.
The little CUD is a blob of metal filling in where the edge of the die is chipped, the metal flows that way because it's not confined where the chip is. The flowing metal digs that path from the D to the CUD area into the die a little more as each coin is struck. It's squirting some metal up into the CUD and the verticals of the D are like little canyons (in the die) so they're extending towards the missing area on the die.

I do not believe these to be cuds at all - rather die damage. The thing about the D does not have a sharp edge, which would be consistent with cuds.
