Error Other | Die Attrition error?

I found this one a while back and remember Mike Diamond writing an article of something similar. Is this the same thing?
I took a few pics and also added one of the rim area by LIBERTY not sure if it has anything to do with the error or not.

Thoughts? Is this type of thing rare? If it is attrition, will ANACS slab it as that?

BTW it sounds funny, Die Attrition ( Dietitian)...lol. nevermind, wheres my coffee!!!

It's quite common on both 80s zinc cents as well as shield cents, I don't think it's something ANACS would put on their label but I could be wrong.

Funny I have one very similar on the OBV (89P) I put aside last night.. On mine it also has cracks along that inner ridge... It is under Lincoln up to the last T in Trust.

It's definitely not a die attrition error. I suspect it's simply a crack in the copper plating. A less likely possibility (since the crack simply fades out at both ends), is pre-plating planchet damage that produced a thin apron of metal that was struck into the coin. However, such errors typically encompass a full 360 degrees.

While we're at it, I've never seen a die attrition error slabbed as such or even slabbed as die damage.

Thanks Mike. I would go with the latter of the two. My first thought was struck through something until I seen attrition. I can see its not just a crack in the plating. Its not split anywhere til the very tip of the indentation. It was something with the planchet or die. Its incused through the motto with plating filling the area. If you click on the photos a couple times they will go to full size. Ill try to get closer pics after my pot of coffee.

Here's an unambiguous example of pre-plating planchet damage:

The closer look I got shows maybe a slight weaker strike below the line in U. I didn't take new pix but crop the original ones.

But the tops of the S and T seem slimmer or the same strength as the parts below the crack. I just don't see enough of a consistent increase in strength lateral to the crack or fissure to conclude that this is a struck-in apron.

Maybe a strike through or just pre strike damage to the planchet?. Just guessing here. Thanks for your time
