Error Other | 43 weak 4

What is up with the 1943 weak 4 and s? I have several that have the same exact error. Is it a grease spot? A weak die? Abraded die? I don't get it.

Struck through grease. Quite common.

I wasn't sure if they would be grease spots. I have like 8 or so out of thirty. Pretty high ratio really.

For some reason this was a weak spot in 1943. I'm not sure that anyone knows exactly why, but you'll find a lot of 1943 cents with a weak 4.
