Hello again,
I found this one in a bag of mixed wheats. The second it hit my table, I could tell it was different. It rings out much differently than a normal coin when dropped. I brought it to work and weighed it on an accurate balance and it came in at 3.385 grams. I have found several of these dated 1941, but never a 1942-s. In reading up on the subject, it appears that the 1942's are much scarcer than the 1941's with some coins weighing up to 4.2 grams! I would love to find one of those even though I don't really collect them. I do save the unusual stuff along the way, however
.
The current consensus on these coin is that they are struck on rolled thick planchets and are not "off metal/foreign planchet" errors. Does anyone have an idea of the value on these? I'd consider trading this one for a variety of some sort if anyone wants an example? Happy searching everyone and thanks for any comments!
