Picked this one up at a small shop years ago, just marked error. My vote is for rolled thin planchet. The weight comes in at 2g. What do you think?

Error Planchet | 196? Rolled Thin Planchet
So sad ... My reverse consumption engine was a broken fuel gauge ... gonna look at coins now. JohnTags: None -
I'm concerned by the lack of rim there. I believe a rolled-thin or tapered planchet should still show the proto-rim. Yours doesn't. It is level with the field. I would say it is damage worn smooth by wear. Judging by how close the motto is to the rim, I would say that's a 1967 or 1968.Last edited by willbrooks; 12-03-2014, 08:17 PM.All opinions expressed are not necessarily shared by willbrooks or his affiliates. I'm curious would it be post mint damage and still show such a well defined ghost of Abe on the reverse at the supposed rolled thin area.So sad ... My reverse consumption engine was a broken fuel gauge ... gonna look at coins now. JohnComment

You know I have heard GHOST of ABE before... I to be honest... I do not know what that is...
OFF TOPIC BUT...is it an image from a clash or metal flowing into the obverse die making the reverse weak in an area?
and yes... I can ( and I have ) hit a cent with a ball peen hammer and flattened out the reverse just to see what would happen... post mint damage can be anything, look like anything, and act like anything...
as Will said.. the lack of rim,the scrapes near the rim and effected areas, and overall look would lead me to believe this had something done to it after it left the mint...
your rim on the reverse looks like it was flattened by somethingMember: Florida State representative for the ANA, Florida state representative for CONECA, F.U.N. and the Ocala Coin ClubComment

Lord have mercy ! I hope you don't think I was implying that abes ghost couldn't be recognized by you guys. Heck I didn't know what it was till Will pointed it out to me in another post. That was what was selling me and I hadn't mentioned it. Many many thanks to you all for pointing me in the right direction !So sad ... Does look like like damage.
You could weigh it, if it's full weight then it wasn't a thin planchet.
Check the diameter by comparing it to a normal cent or seeing if it fits into a folder hole, if it's slightly bigger then it goes along with being flattened after strike.Comment

. I weighed the coin and it comes in at 2g with a normal test coin reabing at 3.1g. I have a simple slide reading outside caliper and reading across the coin starting at the thinest most ragged point it is the same as a normal coin . I actually held this coin and a normal coin in the calipers sideways and nether one slid out. The coin does look rough but on the rough but on the high points that exist the luster does seem undisturbed. So sad ... Damage alone to me does not explain the entire loss of 1 gram... That would be 1/3 of the total coin weight and it does not appear to be missing a third of the metal... I think it is a combo of a lite planchet and damage... Then again I have been known to be incorrect
... I see the ghost abe (Sixth Sense)
