This 1968D has a green line on the reverse that only runs on the field and not on the relief. I don't know what this is. I tried to rub it out with my finger but no change was made. Your help is appreciated.

Soak in acetone...I have a feeling it is something like glue that rubbed off the high points while in circulation -
Roger, I soaked it in acetone for one and a half hours and then rubbed it vigorously with a cloth, but the green line is still there. I'll put it back in the acetone and let it soak longer.Comment

Roger, I soaked it another 2 hours in acetone and then rubbed it again very forcefully with a white cotton sock. The green line is still there!! Whatever it is, it isn't easy to remove.Comment

Joel, did the green stuff on the devices disappear after soaking ? If not then it is probably verdigris...and if that is what is on the "line" as well, then I would suspect a scratch or gouge on the die itself......a crack would be visible on the devices and I don't see that here.Comment

This green line Lincoln has now soaked in Verdi-Care for 15 hours and the green line is still there even after intense rubbing with a soft cotton cloth. This more than just a "red line". It is a GREEN LINE!!Comment

Here are new pics of the green line after 2 baths in acetone and 15 hours in Verdi-Care. The mystery continues!Comment

I've been asked to contribute to this thread, but I can offer nothing beyond that which has already been said. It does look like some sort of material added after the strike and that was scraped off the letters, perhaps before the material "set". I don't know what the material could be.Comment
