    Is this a L on the rim before the liberty ?

    It could be a dropped letter. Will would be one to answer this one.
    So sad ... My reverse consumption engine was a broken fuel gauge ... gonna look at coins now. John

          It is a hit. I am not sure about the rim getting a dropped letter... I would like to find more info on how the rim is made....
          I have been informed it is possible.. but I would like more info on how this is possible.
          this is what your mind wants to interpret a random design into something.
          You may want to give us a picture of the Whole obverse, the Whole Reverse, and then a close up of the area in question.
          This will help us help you.

          also.. The L is the "wrong shape"



          As you can see if you look more you can see a M or a W, a S, a L, and a I laying down ..

            What I am seeing here indicates to me that this is most likely damage on the rim and not a dropped letter.

              Being on the rim which is prone to damage and being incuse makes it highly likely to be damage.
