I see some very faint indentations where the VDB should be... It appears to be a combination of a strike thru and a heavily worn die... As the die is used and the face wears away the VDB in this area disappears... I have seen a few with just the tops of the VDB left... The column on the rev appears to be die abrasion and die flow lines just like the obv on the east side of Abes jacket!!!

I believe die deterioration is the culprit here for both things you are pointed out.
