Would this be die wear or deterioration or something? What do you think it is? Just wear on the cent? Even the edge is rounded.

Hi Sheila,
This is what happens when coins get stuck in a dryer and tumbled around. There are other things that can also create the effect such as putting a cent in a rock tumbler.
Dryer Coin: A coin that has been extremely damaged outside of the mint by being repeatedly hit, similar to what would happen to it if it tumbled around in a dryer or similar device. In an actual dryer, the heat would soften the metal increasing the damage.
