Error Other | The 1970 S Doubled Die Obverse?

So, in no way does mine looks like these:

However; with that said, there seems to be something very slight happening with mine. Could you take a look please. I don't know, machine doubling? Die deterioration? Sorry about the light and focus. These proofs are a bear to take pictures of!

It may be a DDO... I just can not tell for sure... Yours is similar to Copper Coins 028P http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diest...&die_state=eds except for the MM location... This may be one to send in for an in hand look???

I'm pretty sure that is strike doubling on the motto. See how flat it is and how it cuts into the devices? This is uber common on late 60's and early 70's proof coins and business strikes. It will get your heart going though!

Do you mean Machine Doubling? I'm not familiar with strike doubling. I'm familiar with flat/shelf-like doubling. Thanks for the feedback.

When you say "send in", you mean have it graded? Thanks!

It's machine doubling (aka strike doubling). MD on proof coins can be additionally deceptive as the frosting may still be present reducing the shelf like appearance. On proof coins always look for notching and expect the doubled areas to have a rounded appearance.

What they mean by "send it in" is the forum has qualified people that can look at it in hand.

Can they be found in one of the above pull down menus?

Jason is one person that can do attributions... Since he has already identified it as machine doubling (Also known as strike doubling) there should be no need to send the coin in... If you still feel the need to send the coin to be looked at there are numerous people on the forum that do attributions... There is no menu (list) of attributors on the forum at least not that I am aware of... Hope that helps a little!!!

Yes, that helps a lot. Thank you. So, if in the future I have a coin that is questionable regarding attribution and again someone suggests I send it in (after posting it here first for review), then I could PM Jason, is that correct?

Yes you could... If he is available at the time... Will and Bob can also do attributions and there are a few others but again it all depends on if they are available to do it... If they think the coin warrants an in hand inspection then they usually let the person know they can take a look at it!!!

Jim makes a good point. We will be more than willing to look at a coin in hand if we feel that the discussion here has failed to yield results that are pretty well accurate. Remember that attributions can take time and money. We really use this forum to preclude having to send coins in often. The expertise of this membership is incredible. Chances are that we will make an accurate diagnosis based on the photos or discussion here. However...if you feel that the guidance given here is incorrect, you will always have the option to send it in to one of us. Hopefully, it doesn't turn into an expensive option for the free advice.
