    Error Lamination | 1946D LAM

Looks like part of the rim is folded over on to the main LAM. The material under the nose was wiped away. Thanks for looking.

Really nice LAM Larry J! Congrats! This is a good one for dogparkdays to see, she is studying LAM's!

Thanks for the post Joel. So - when it's a LAM can you also refer to it as a retained CUD or is there a clear distinction and one should not call it both?

I would just call it a LAM. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will respond.

            Completely different.

A lamination is a defect on the copper strip/blank/planchet, a piece that is laminating, not bonded together. It only shows on the coin or coins with the defect in the copper strip.

A CUD has nothing to do with the strip/blank/planchet, it's from a die with a cracked section that's shifted so the coins get a defect or raised section where the die was messed up. It shows on every coin made by that die after it has the defect.
