So it looks like some type of clash. It looks like part of the P from PLURIBUS.

Pretty sure I'm seeing a slight clash mark left of Lincoln's neck, above the zero and a reverse clash of Lincoln's hair above the N of ONE. Could be more!
Edit... The reverse hair clash above the N is showing a slight misalignment. Very nice to find die clashes on both sides of the coin!!Last edited by VAB2013; 09-19-2017, 08:29 PM.Comment

Tom, it's just the shiny coin. Sometimes the light will help you see the clash marks that for some reason don't pop with a loupe. Then on the flip side the light makes makes it harder to get a clear pic. Thank you for the nice compliment Tom! I have all the confidence in the world in you to find these clash marks! Then you can zero in on them with your pics! Looking forward to your updates!Comment

Would this be considered an Atypical die clash? Usually the bars on the shield are the visible part of a clash.
Very interesting how P is struck so strongly but E isn't visible at all. And the relief of Lincoln's bust would prevent any contact between dies in that area. I guess this is a really good example to show how the center of the dies are raised.
Is that the edge of the shield above the 0 of the date?
Are my eyes playing tricks or is there some thing on the the reverse, center of the fifth vertical bar from the left of the shield (above the C of CENT)? It looks like it could be die details of Lincoln's neck at the coat. If it is, that would be quite a bit out of alignment.

Very nice!! I'm with the others. You have a lot going on around the date and tie area. I've found that you have to have the area you want to take pics of slightly out of the light and almost out of focus sometimes to pick up what's there. Clashes sometimes need a tilt to the coin to see them too. I'm not sure but you look to have a clash on the obverse southwest corner of the bust too and having a hard time figuring out what it could be! Possibly an out of alignment clash of the scroll edge?Comment

You're exactly right about the tilt, light and focus thing. You guys really have your eyes trained on what to look for. Somethings jump out at me and others I have to look 10 times before I see it.Very nice!! I'm with the others. You have a lot going on around the date and tie area. Just a side note: This reminds me of something I haven't thought of in years. Years ago, I had a side/part-time job as a store detective at a large NY department store picking up shoplifters (detaining them as they exit the store). Basically, walking around the store as just another shopper and looking thru one-way glass watching shoppers on the merchandise flood as they steal things. I went thru a one month training period with other store detectives on what to look for.
Long story short: It took me weeks to spot shoplifters (fast hands) putting merchandise in their pockets and elsewhere. During my training period, we (another detectives and myself) would be up high behind a well in what we called the "coop" (a place the sit and watch the merchandise floor thru one-way glass). He or she would say: watch this guy, watch his eyes, watch his hands...............THERE THERE,,,did you see it, did you see it??? He just put it in his pocket!! Let's go get him!! See what, I would say. I didn't see anything! Where's the merchandise? Where did it go, I would say? "It's in his left coat pocket"......Sure enough, when we stopped the shoplifter outside the store it was in his left coat pocket! Some shoplifter are good and fast! It took me weeks to see and learn that! After a while, you could spot a shoplifter from a mile away.
I'm hoping these coins turn out the same way for me. : )Last edited by TJ1952; 09-20-2017, 07:31 AM.Comment

Nice clash... I am with the others... You have lots of clash all over... The P from EPU appears to be the strongest... With the lite reflection I can not tell if there is a corresponding clash at the P of EPU... If possible better pics would help but not required... You have a keeper!!!Jim
