Can you point out the area on the full coin or take a closeup? I can't see what you are referring too.

I'm assuming it's the small area to the right of the initials LB? We probably need to see what some of the more knowledgeable folks have to say. Is it just the little corner and a clean omission of that area only? I'm still having a hard time seeing it, or the lack of it. It may be covered with gunk or something too. Have you tried to move with a toothpick or Q-tip?

Or if you have some pure acetone, not fingernail polish remover, you can soak it for about 15 mins and see if that helps. It does look like something dark is around that area so it's making it hard for us to see.

Rotating the coin or the light source so that the light shines into the areas of darkness will help see the area in question.

That is really odd. I figured it was covered with something. I don't think that it would be a grease filled die either that would be so precise. We'll see what the big dogs say. Thanks for the additional pics!

Thanks for the additional image. Nice one.
That is interesting. More images with the light from different directions might help.
The light reflecting on the section of the shield next to the "missing" one looks odd also.

Thank you for the updated photos sonya! Guys, what do you think? On a normal Shield cent, the left corner section of the lower shield at LB is smaller in comparison to the right side. I am wondering if on sonya's coin, that portion of the die was abraded. Looks like I am seeing some scratches at that area on the coin in question.

To me it looks like a struck thru grease filled die... I have seen a few like that and figured that was the culprit!!!
