Error CUD | 1940-S with a possible cud?
Found this yesterday in a roll of customer coins I got from my bank. I’m thinking a Cud but I need the experts here to let me know. Thanks.

Congrats retiredcopper! That's a very nice retained cud! I looked through cuds-on-coins listings and yours looks similar to RCD-1c-1940S-41R but I'm not one of the pros so let's see what they say! Here's the link http://cuds-on-coins.com/lincoln-cen...ed-cuds-1940s/ -

I think Roller may be correct but the pic blurs to much when I zoom in... Can you get a close up clearer pic of the area where the cracks come off the stalk and toward the rim???Jim

You are welcome retiredcopper, sorry I wasn't much help
these are confusing looking... some of the ones on cuds-on-coins look just like yours does to me and then some of them are more involved with the rim like Roller and Jim are saying. Thankfully we have Roller and Jim to show us the ropes!

Thanks for the follow up pics... I think the shadows are making it appear slightly displaced where the cracks leave the stalk and enter the field???
Added - If you could compare yours with COCs http://cuds-on-coins.com/lincoln-cen...ed-cuds-1940s/ 03R... Yours is not 03R but the appearance is extremely similar and 03R is a confirmed retained cud!!!Last edited by jfines69; 03-20-2018, 04:06 AM.Jim

Thank you again for your time. My coin is very similar. The difference I see is that my coin has a die crack that goes through the wheat stalk and extends to the rim on both sides, but the wheat stalk in full on both sides of the crack. Is there something called an early stage cud error? Thanks for the follow up pics... I think the shadows are making it appear slightly displaced where the cracks leave the stalk and enter the field???

I believe Ray recently posted what is listed by Cohen as a 'pre cud". You might search this forum for the post.Thank you again for your time. My coin is very similar. Yours could be an earlier die stage of a listed retained cud or cud... I will go thru COC... Maybe I can find a match!!!Thank you again for your time. My coin is very similar. I found a match on COC http://cuds-on-coins.com/lincoln-cen...ed-cuds-1940s/ RCD-1c-1940S-32R... I think your rim is worn over hiding the edge that shows that it is a retained cud that or yours is a slightly earlier die state that shows just before the area broke loose from the die... Very cool!!!Jim
