Error Planchet | Defective planchet before the strike.?

Found this about three weeks ago. I'm pretty sure this is a defective planchet (voids). Some appear to be larger inside than the hole at the surface. Like a cave. It was hard to get any light inside because of the depth. There are some circulation dings as well but the inside appears darker than the coin surface.

Edit: Added that some of the items on the reverse seem lamination related.

Maybe isolated acid spots or another chemical of some sort? Does it look from the outside in or like the zinc plated coins, from the inside out?

thanks Jon, acid was my first inclination but I'm sure it's not acid or caustic substance causing pitting. Sorry but I'm not sure what you mean by the outside in or the inside out.

Thanks Ed, seriously, because you made me look up the definition of inclusion. (I like learning new things.)
If you mean inclusions, as in the interior voids, that was exactly my thought. Not exactly a lamination although some appear to be present on the reverse. And the "caves" looked similar to other coppers cents that are minted with voids, where the interior of the area in question tends to be a much darker brown as opposed to bright damaged metal.

Look at the reverse image of this LINK to one sold on the Bay. You can see the "dark matter" on the interior area away from the minted surface of the coin.

To me, this simply looks like a parking lot coin that was either stepped on or driven over. Once the damage was done, the zinc core corroded which led to some of the other anomalies. This sure looks like post strike damage.

I agree with post strike but this is not a zincoln.

Yep...You're right. I thought I saw zinc around the ITED of UNITED, but obviously it is the light. Still sticking with damage though.

I'm in with the PSD also... Perfectly good coin left in a gravel covered parking lot and driven over by a sadist As for being dark inside there could be a few explanations for that... My first thought would be because there is no light Time to break out the spelunking gear

Thanks guys for looking. Believe me that was my first thought and had to double check to make sure it wasn't zinc also. But I'll hang on to it any way. In hand I can see inside when the light hits it juuuuust right.

If memory serves me correct all Lincolns have zinc in them in one amount or another... That is if memory serves me correctly I hang on to the strange ones also!!!
