Pulled another from the CAN and came up with a new Spike Head, several close but not the same. I thought it was odd this one had such a strong wide crack and then just terminated as it hit the forehead.
The sudden termination of the crack is not real odd at all. That is simply where the crack stopped for this particular striking. The crack may or may not continue to grow with continued use of the die. They have to stop somewhere...right?

I think the die metal on this one appears to be brittle enough to break away from the edges of the crack as it grows, even at the newest part of the crack.
Lots of times the end of the crack towards the center is really thin and hard to see..This one is wide and pronounced, right to the end.

Thank you sir!! It was just the fact that it was thick at the end, I just haven't seen that before. I am a few million coins behind you though!! Thank you for taking a look though Bob, I always love and appreciate having your insight!

Thanks Cliff!! The wide at the end part was what got my attention.
Nice find Jon... Looks to me like it is 022 unless JC has something in the hold pattern Also remember that the crack looks wider than is actually was due to circ wear... Just north of the termination point at the forehead the crack is real thin in the recessed area of the hair... That is due to the depth protecting it from circ wear... The actual thickness of the crack will vary along its entire length but will be fairly close to that protected area with the exception of the chip outs... Hope that helps a bit!!!
Jim (A.K.A. Elmer Fudd) Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!

Thanks Jim!! I forget that the die wear does increase the size of things. Right as always!!
Thanks Viv!! A lot of nights I just toss them in my can when I'm not up to taking pics. That's why you'll see two or three posted at the same time, when I dig back into my can....
