Hmmm. Wonder what that toned aura in front of Lincoln's profile is from?
(ps. Glad to see you posting Sheila.)

My guess is that it is just the part that didn’t tone with the rest of it.
I have been so busy for the last couple of months. I have had the same box of coins for almost 3 months now. I have only searched about a total of 5 rolls in 3 months.

Hello Sheila! Nice to see you on the forum! Hope all is well with you and you are settled into your new home! One good thing about Lincoln is... he's very patient! So that box is ready to go whenever you are!

This coin is interesting looking... it kind of reminds me of some pics I've seen of split plate doubling but the pics I have seen around the front of the face are not that precisely shaped around the face contours.

Yes, I have seen those kind also. This one just seems to be shaded out of the rest of the coloring.

It does appear to be a VEDS strike judging from how strong the periphery details are. The discoloration at the forehead and G of GOD seems similar to the area at the face.

I'm wondering if the area in front of the face might be remnants of a pressure ridge on the die face from the hubbing process? Is that even possible?

I think it's all in toning, caused by where grease/oil gets on the surface or where it gets wiped off.

Cool... Looks like yours has brassy plating http://www.error-ref.com/?s=brass+cents that due to the split plating and some other corrosion issues has turned a cool looking color... I came across this today doing a little research and when I saw yours it clicked on the possibility!!!

Thank you! I tried to glance over here every so often. But every time I seem to get a chance, I get interrupted. I guess I just have to accept the fact that it is a mom thing! LOL! Mom! Mom! Mom!
