Error CUD | 1987 large cud

Found this large cud in a roll that Jim Fines sent me, along with 19ea. 2017 P cents. No match for the cud yet. Also a well circulated 1944 wheat back was in there too. Thank you Jim for the rolls. And I want to thank Viv for sort of looking in on me as I have not been searching coins due to other work at home, you know those honey - due lists can it long...........................Dan

Added: Jim is very awesome to send you the rolls to go through! What a great guy!!!

        Really nice cud Dan.
Not only is there weakness on the reverse opposite the cud, there is a bunch of heavy die abrasions to the dies indicating the dies were old and ready to disintegrate.
Probably not many of those cuds created.

You're welcome Dan! I looked at the cuds-on-coins 87 cuds and I didn't see yours. I really don't think it could be a different stage of any of the ones listed either. Let's see what Jim and the guys think! I'm thinking yours is a new one!!!

I would have to agree with Viv. There are a few in the same general area but none of the stages could be yours. I blew up your pic and the pic for #10 and could not find anything that matched as far as die scratches or gouges. That was the only one that would have any chance of being an earlier die stage than yours and I don't see anything to tie the two together. Yours looks to be a later die stage too with all the abrasions and some ridge ring developing. Nice new CUD Dan!!

Only question I can think of is: Jim, are you kicking yourself for letting this one get away?

That would be nice if it is a new one, I can't find a match either. It would appear that the mint tried to cover up some clashing on the reverse. Thanks for researching it Viv................Dan

Nice find... Looks like a new one to me also... It wouldn't be COCs 010 http://cuds-on-coins.com/lincoln-cent-cuds-1980-1989/ due to 010s die stage vs Dans... The obv on 010 is concave causing split plating near the rim around the entire obv... Dans coin appears to be in a fairly early die stage on the obv and paired with a much later die state rev... Good thing I sent unopened full rolls... I started out by pulling P minted coins out of rolls with out using my loupe or scope but ended up checking them any way So I decided to just look at the end coins and if a D mint coin or revs showed at each end then the roll went to Dan... Took me a while but I finally got some to him

Nice one. Cuds tend to sell very well on ebay. There seems to be a few people that collect and compete for them.

I found 19ea. of the 2017 P's this 1987 P turned out to be truly a real surprise. Not sure if it is a new one but I can't find a match for it anywhere. I went on ebay to look for one that was similar with no luck. Haven't been looking at coins for awhile so when I received the rolls from you Jim, it prompted me to start looking again. I guess if you take a break from searching, it might change one's luck. Thanks for the rolls and the 1987 cud Jim..................Dan
