I haven't seen anything quite like this but don't know what to call it other than an IDB. I've not seen one contained by the columns before. The closest thing I've seen, I guess would be a hornets nest. Let me know what you think.
I believe that is a clash Jon. That is the chin, rotated Clock Wise and out of the normal position.
Maybe an atypical die clash?
I had thought about that when I first noticed it but could not make it work, at least in my mind, of course that's not saying much... That would explain why it doesn't look like a typical break though, because it's not. Thanks Cliff!!
Cool... I think Cliff is correct... Would it be ok to download your full obv and rev pics for an overlay???
Sure, I'd appreciate that Jim! Let me know if you need other pics or if you can work with what I have already posted.
I tried to get some better full coin pics but this one fought me pretty hard. Anyway, here are a couple more reverses and one more obverse. Use whatever works best though.
I'm in on the die clash too, looking forward to Jim's overlay! That's a mighty strong clash for nothing else to be showing up. I'd say it's quite a bit out of kilter, rotated and misaligned!

Thanks Viv!! I would have to say Cliff and you guys are very correct. It is peculiar the lack of anything else going on though. I may try to get some better pics up for Jim to work with before he comes back this evening.
Nice follow up pics Jon... Thanks... Since we are limited on file size here on the LCF if you need to send me pics of a larger size email them to me if you wish - jfines69@aol.com!!!
Jim (A.K.A. Elmer Fudd) Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!

Thanks Jon because it had me fooled at first only looking at the closeups of the neck clash on the reverse. Not until I saw the whole reverse and saw the chin, did it hit me.

Thanks Jim!! I didn't even think about that. I'll keep that in mind and let me know if you need anything else on this one.
Thanks for letting me do this overlay Jon... A really strange clash... The dies do not appear to be in a late die stage, the coin does not appear concave, which makes it strange that the only clash marks I see are in B7/B8... it is a deep clash, slightly misaligned and probably tilted??? The columns and other devises do not look overly polished away due to the clash??? There may be a clash under Abes chin but I can not tell for sure??? To me if the obv die was the one associated with the rev clash I would have expected to see clash marks of the bay and columns at the neck and bowtie area... A brain stumper for sure

Thanks Jim, great work and it looks great!! It's clear as a bell now!
Real nice job on the overlay Jim! Well.... I was hoping that Jim would find some other clash marks, but since he didn't I agree this is a brain stumper! Jon, keep this one close and handy so when Jason comes back you can show it to him. It's a very cool find and it would be nice to know how this happened!

Thanks Viv!! I will label and file it away for another day!
