Error Planchet | 1996 P LMC Sruck Thru Late Stage Die Cap Error?

Is this a struck thru late stage die cap error?

You can make out the date 1996 plus a very faint Liberty on the Obverse.

Nice one. Not real familiar with these at all.
Probably, since you can make out some of the obv. details.

I think it is a capped die strike but not 100% sure??? Your coin has a bunch of metal bunched up on the east side which looks kind of strange to me... The samples on Error Ref http://www.error-ref.com/?s=struck+t...+stage+die+cap do not show that as far as I can tell... There are 6 sub types listed... I need to look thru another section that has 7 pages http://www.error-ref.com/?s=die+cap Apparently Bob hasn't looked at this thread yet so maybe a PM to him would be helpful???

Added - Could you get some straight on pics of the obv??? Your current pics look to be at an angle??? Thanks!!!

Agree with Jim, it probably is one but also has some weird stuff not like I've seen on others and it's strange the date and liberty are still peeking through.

Probably a good one to get Mikes opinion on.

            Good point Jim.

No discernible obverse design features are evident (excluding the ridge ring) so I don't think it would be struck through a late stage die cap. They usually have some design features visible.

But it still has a pretty clear date and liberty among the mushy stuff on the obv.

Hey Chuckster! Did you send a PM to Mike Diamond to ask if he can look at your thread? Also I noticed that Bob and Will have not viewed it yet!

It does appear to be a struck through die cap. One thing to remember is that the later the die cap, the more the capped die had disintegrated, and the more you can see on the struck coin. Mike Diamond would know, but if I had a guess, I would say that it was maybe struck through an early or mid stage die cap.

Thanks. Forgot about the date but didn't notice LIBERTY.

Thanks Bob, as this makes a lot of sense.

                            Thanks again for the help.

Posted pics on the CONECA FORUM : Mr. Diamond's attention.

                            Hopefully he will respond.

If I hear anything I'll post back here.

                            Chuck.
