Error Filled Dies | 1984 D grease filled die with Will's lines. How does that work?

I ran across what looks to be an extreme grease filled die but the lines Will has been studying are also present. Can someone explain this to me?
Let me know if you would like additional closeups.

    Thanks for looking, Jon.

It's nice to know I'm good for something Mr. Brooks....

Alrighty then, I'll take a stab at it and then you can correct me. Still got my training wheels on, so bear with me.
I think the assumption has been that the lines were created by grease or some other form of contaminate in between the zinc and copper plating and even though there is grease between the die and the coin, the last reaction is the plating being raised up in the contaminated areas by the heat of the stamping action, the grease on top of the coin may have made it even hotter than normal.

          Alright Will, have at me!

Ha! I'm having so much fun that I think we should wait 3 days for Jim's explanation first.

edit: Oh, just received an unsolicited package from you. What timing? Speaking of timing, I listened for ticking first, but then I realized that I wasn't watching a Pink Panther movie.

Thanks Viv!! One of the better greasers I've found, most are very light and much more isolated.

Maybe I need to come up with some butter, too.
