Error Plating | 1987 P I believe incomplete plating error

It looks like an incomplete plating error. 1C75984D-5022-41B3-97FF-CD0B27CC3C9A.jpg D7BD9FE8-4D99-42BC-876D-03BA6F530997.jpg E6441028-17E8-4003-8FD8-AD48BCDB2BC7.jpg D65414EA-F90A-4A78-A106-6D1A07A0EDED.jpg

That's cool looking, Sheila. It does look like zinc showing through but I think if you did a small test, with a little scrape in the zinc colored area, you may find some copper plating still. My guess is the copper has been discolored by environmental damage or some substance, such as paint. I cannot see any difference in the surface, between color changes, that would point to plating differences.

Thank you! I never saw this when I was searching. It looks more like it.

These are impossible to declare with certainty as Mint errors. Of course, that doesn't stop anybody.
