    Error BIE | 1955-S with a bie error and die chip on the date.

    Nice bie error I found while searching bank rolls this morning.

            Very nice! You found a good example of the "Sausage" BIE, Cohen B650. Not many BIE's or other oddities have their own name, and in fact this is the largest BIE in the whole Lincoln Cent series. It is also Stage K of RPM-4, so a "double error". I did a study on this RPM showing an animation of the progression from Stage A through Stage K. You can view the animation here:



            The Sausage BIE is also extremely tall, ie there was a very large piece that broke out of the die surface to create the BIE. It's hard to find a well-struck example which fully shows the details of the highest points, and the high areas take a beating since they are actually taller than the rim.
