Error Struck Through | 1943 Struck Through Capped Die?

Recently I was going through a friend's coin collection and found a small group of coins set aside as "errors". Some of the coins were just minor errors, and a few were PSD, but this coin has stumped me. I have done some research and if it is an error then it appears to be a struck through capped die. It shows some pitting on the obverse which is not a good sign, but that doesn't completely discount it entirely. I appreciate any advice on determining if this is an error or damage. Let me know if any more images would be helpful.

    Thanks in advanced.

Looks good to me. Early stage struck through capped die. The later stages show more details showing through. Don’t think I’ve ever seen one on a steel cent before. Nice find

Thanks for all the replies. I am glad to see the consensus is that it is actually an error. To be honest, I thought for sure that it was just acid damage or something. Thanks again!

I was asked to contribute to this thread. This cent was indeed struck through a die cap. It could have been a late-stage conventional die cap (with the design worn off) or a uniface die cap (never had a design).

Thank you for the reply. I was really skeptical about this being an error and not just damage of some sort, so I wanted to get an expert's opinion before I might send it off for grading. Thanks again to everyone who contributed and helped me with this!
