    My first thought was misplaced metal or rim burrs but the lower piece looks tucked into the 5, like it may have been in the die. Not sure. Can you give us a full coin shot of this one, Ray?

      For sure these are raised features, not incuse, so are die damage struck into the coin.

      I've been doing high mag shots and need to convert to do full coin, so will take a bit. Will post full coin image when I can.

        I have this die. Those are really weird gouges. Does your coin have more of these gouges than the two you show?

          Yes, it has more in the field above the date. I think this is why I was requested to shoot the whole coin, and I will do that.

              I was thinking the same thing.
              I've got multiples of this one as well and wondered if the symmetrical curved gouges could have been a MM or even part of an 8?
