Error Other | 1980 LMC -Legit Error or "torch job"?

Found this cent roll searching.

It looks like it might be dated 1980? hard to tell.

It weighs approx 3.00 Grams.

Is this a legit die cap/ or plating error or someone again had too much time on their hands and "torched " it etc?

My first impression was that something is added to the obverse. Layer of something????

It does look like maybe solder or silver plated, but if so, would that not increase the weight of the coin?

This coin weighs a little less than normal at 3.00 grams.

That's probably it, a late '80s Lincoln with solder on the obverse. Examine the reverse carefully and see if you can place the RDV # to figure out if it is Plated or Copper...

It looks to be struck by a late stage die cap. The extra metal could be a fold in the die cap itself which creates that appearance.

I would agree with BJ, except the silver color of the obverse face is inconsistent with a legitmate error. I'd have to remain on the fence on this one, in the absence of any personal examination.

Almost looks to me like a legit die cap, except look at two things:

(A) The reverse seems quite mottled (years of heavy circulation and perhaps some foul play)
(B) Note the color of the rim on the obverse. Seems awefully coppery and shiny as compared to the rest of the coin.

In my opinion, it looks as if it is a legit error, but someone stripped the copper off the obverse face.
