[Example] LMC Struck on a Defective Planchet

Found this LMC (1988-P) in a bank roll this afternoon.

This is a nice example of a Lincoln Memorial Cent that has been struck on a Defective Planchet. The Planchet still retains the Type II rim on the outside of the voided area. Proably due to improper alloy mix it lost part of the planchet before being struck. Even the Copper coating is present.

If you look at the word "GOD" you can see where it was struck into the void but it is weak due to the planchets metal loss.

    Joe,

You continue to amaze me with your finds. I will not speculate on what it is, but I do know what I need to look for. Nice again.

Gee, that must have been a pretty darn nice coin before the copper mice got to it.
