    Error in Date: 198?

We have been going through thousands of hoarded pennies and I ran across this one. I'm unable to find any information on this error. Unable to determine year in the 1980's.

To me it looks like a 1981 that the bottom of the one got hit pushing it to the left
Definitely damaged after it left the mint..... AKA.....Post Strike Damage (PSD)

This explains it. Zooming in on my photo, I can see a gouge like a tool mark to the right of the number base. The coin is in fairly good condition for its age and there does not seem to be any other similar marks and whatever did it must have been really sharp. It is a keeper for me.

        Thank you!

When I add light and zoom in, the shadows are gone and it no longer appears to be a gouge or tool mark. This is the best I can do with my iPhone - need a microscope.

It appears to be a hit causing displacement of the metal!!!

This is not Mint error, as noted. The coin was damaged.
