Two LCR members graciously sent in a few examples of extreme MD for me to photograph. The 1992P is from LCR member DWK and the two 1957Ds are from LCR member Abe.
They all are cases of strong Machine Doubling, Push Type. The 1992P had the die bounce off of part of the coin and flattened parts of the date, portrait and then almost created doubling in the vest and lapel. The most extreme part is RTY in LIBERTY. The last image shows an overlay showing how the die came back down SW and created what almost looks like an abstracted pattern.
The two '57Ds appear to be from the same die struck at least a small time apart as it developed a die break on the 9. The first example shows the date appearing like a skeletal structure. The second example also shows the MD impacted the mintmark.
