Beautiful 1947 RPM #7 (San Serif S over Serif S)

I found the beautiful BU 1947 S RPM #7. I love this RPM because it is a Sans Serif mintmark punched over the top of a Serif (Trumpet Tail) mintmark. It is the first one I have found. While doing my research on this die I found it very interesting how close it is to RPM # 4 for this year (which is another Sans Serif over Serif mintmark made popular by the Cherrypickers Guide). My coin is surely #7 because all the marker matched up. I have attached 3 different lighting angels of the same coin to illustrate it better. You can see the upper "spike" of the Trumpet Tail serif point down underneath the San Serif mintmart. Very cool coin.

The location of the 007 is further north than the 004 and the mint mark is thicker on the 007.

Thanks everyone for your comments. This die makes me wonder if the mint wanted a certain number of dies to have a specific mintmark font. For example, this die had the Trumpet style S first then the San Serif was punched over it. Was this a mistake or a correction? Did the mint have too many Trumpet Style S dies and they need more San Serif dies forcing the mint-worker to alter a preexisting die that had a Trumpet Style S. Or was it just an accident and the mint-work did the first punch with a Trumpet Style punch and then laid it down only to grab a San Serif punch for the next punch by accident? Does anyone know or is this question unanswerable leaving us to only speculate.

They used the mint mark punch until they retire them and go on with a new one. This is what I have noticed. The 1946 is noted to have three different punches used. But when you think about how the punches are used for all denominations, they do get bent and retired from use.

Hey Dave, Look at RPM#4 on James's CD. I will check my stages - marker's against this coin = Looks like my RPM#4 Stage "A". Has the same die scratches through the 9 and over the mintmark, yours is a little later die state. Sorry Eric

Thanks Eric. I appreciate your help. I thinking your picture is of 1MM-007/WRPM-006 also. It matches the markers on coppercoins 1MM-007 EDS. Here's the link: http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/d...&die_state=eds

I also just looked at Wexler's site and he has is WRPM-006 cross-referenced with 1MM-004/CONECA RPM-004; however, I think Wexler's WRPM-006 pictured on his site is really 1MM-007/CONECA RPM-007.
