    Designer's initials with unfamiliar font

The designer's initials in this 1992 cent has an unfamiliar font that shares characteristics of both RDV-005 and RDV-006.

This is a 1992 wide AM cent but why is the FG like this? its more like an RDV-005 FG instead of the RDV-006 FG.

Anyone have a clue what's going on here?

Mike, I know I commented on the original thread, but I do notice what look like abrasion lines in a few of the pictures in the first post. My guess would be an RDV-006 with abraded initials, though the flatness of the bottom of the G does not share the same characteristic of 006. I'll leave this one to the experts...

Couldn't this just be an over abraided initial? I have found 89s that look similar that turned out to be just over abraided initials.

If you still have the photos (or a link to a thread you posted), maybe you could post them so we can compare...

You're right, gunnovice, that does look a lot like the coin posted by the OP on cointalk...flat bottom and all.

Yeah it looks identical to me. That's why I don't frequent cointalk anymore, too many posters who don't listen to others views o what they have. Feel free to use my pics on cointalk if you wish.

Another vote for abraded 006. Nothing unusual other than the lower serifs of the G. Spacing and placement looks good for 006.

As cool as it would be to have a new reverse design discovery, many finds can unfortunately be more easily explained as a result of regular die maintenance or some other often-encountered anomaly throughout the life of the die...but that's why we keep searching!

I sympathize with you, Simon, about tommy_cent. A frustrating user, unwilling to learn.
