    jfines, you've helped me so often I thought I'd offer my two cents' worth [literally -- attached]... I'm new at all this and wasn't finding RPMs very effectively (and was even worse at attributing) until I started looking at them using the monochrome setting on my scope. At least for attribution, I find that it nicely smooths out the distracting colors and can often intensify and highlight the serifs and notches. In doing this, I didn't have to mess with brightness, contrast, and gamma settings, etc.

    And when really in doubt, I tilt up the western edge by placing a nickel under it -- then shoot. The difference can be pretty dramatic at times. I've attached sample color and monochrome versions of the same RPM and same lighting. The monochrome setup was tilted.

        Those are good pics... I do the same with the monochrome or black/white settings when looking thru the scope... I still can not attribute the RPMs all that good tho If some one already knows the RPM attribution I can play match the dies tho Thanks!!!
